Deputies investigate Walmart shooting threat

Lexington County sheriff’s deputies are working to identify the person who alerted authorities to a shooting threat at a Walmart store on Sunday, Aug. 16.

On its Facebook page, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department said it received a call “about a man armed with a gun threatening to shoot as many people as he could” in the Walmart Supercenter at 1780 S. Lake Drive in the Red Bank community south of Lexington.

“Deputies responded to the location and cleared the store,” the LCSD’s Sunday post reads.

“We’ve not seen a man with a gun, nor has anyone else reported seeing a man with a gun,” the sheriff’s department continued. “We’ve not come across any evidence of any shots. No one has heard any shots.

“Our effort now is on trying to track the number that called this in and follow up.”

Anyone with information can call the sheriff’s department at 803-785-8230.
