The numbers don’t add up.
SC health officials claim the state ranks 5th in the US for how quickly covid vaccine is given.
They cite Becker’s Hospital Review, a national healthcare information forum.
Becker’s reported SC has already given nearly 78% of its available vaccine.
Yet DHEC’s site Tuesday morning does not say that.
It shows SC received 740,450 doses but has given only 420,964.
That’s no where close to 78%.
Becker’s Feb. 1 report cited information from Jan. 31 that the state received 560,150 doses and gave 439,541 shots, a 78% rate.
In mid-January, the CDC indicated the state was among the slowest in vaccinations.
DHEC said that report failed to include more than 200,000 doses they had dedicated to vaccinate every long-term care facility resident and staff member.
DHEC’s own data does not say that.

SC lawmakers are skeptical.
“The sky is green,” joked Senate Majority Leader Shane Massey who represents Lexington County in the Senate.
“Believe me. There’s a national study somewhere that says the sky is green so it must be true.
“Anyone who thinks SC is doing a great job at getting shots in arms is not paying attention to what’s actually happening.”
