AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

More than 1,500 guests dined al fresco Sunday night at Lexington’s premiere event.

The Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce hosted its Dining on the Dam atop the Dreher Shoals Dam at Lake Murray. Guests were able to stroll the dam , enjoy the view and stop at numerous food stations for such offerings as green tomato salad, carved roasted chicken, cheese, charcuterie, fried catfish and more. Great beverages were paired with food offerings. Tables were available for seating and for listening to the Reggie Sullivan band.

Among the many attending were Melissa and Otis Rawl, Lou and Bill Kennedy, Hugh Weathers, Tod and Dianne Augsberger, Joanne Turnquist, Greg Little, Dell and Troy Simpson, Shelley Metropol, Allison and Rick Sanford, Cindy and Mark Hendrix, Gay and Darrell Hudson, Ann and Trip Jones, Cayce Mayor Elise Partin, state Rep. Another big event

of the weekend was the Herb Festival on the grounds of the Lexington County Museum. Attendees walked the grounds and visited vendors offering many items. Always popular is the bake sale. This year Lorraine Butler’s pineapple/coconut cake iced with Cool Whip was a big hit.

J.R. Fennell, museum director, was on hand to offer tours and history lessons.

Plants and herbs were plentiful and available for purchase. Yummy herbal treats of spiced baby potatoes, herb bread and vegetarian chili were served by Dot Tunstall and Nila Ballentine. The healthy and thriving garden of carrots, kale and other veggies was being maintained by Stanley Rikard.

Dan Koon welcomed guests, while Beverly Kleckley, a founder, invited everyone to a silent auction. It was a fabulous festival.

Coming up Thursday, April 11, The Embers will perform at the Icehouse Amphitheater at 6:30 pm. April 18, Whiskey Run will appear.
