Dist. 1 facility named after late White Knoll High athlete

Posted

Lexington County School District 1 has named the hitting facility at White Knoll High School the Brett Williams Hitting Facility.

The re-naming came at the request of the WKHS Athletic Department and Athletic Booster Club.

Williams passed away in January 2017 at the start of his sophomore baseball season due to complications from influenza.

Ranked as the number one sophomore player by South Carolina Diamond Prospects, he had committed to play for the University of South Carolina weeks before his death.

Williams played both varsity and junior varsity baseball in his eighth grade season, settling in as the starting varsity first baseman and occasional pitcher during his freshman year.

An honor student with a 4.61 GPA, Williams made the A/B honor roll every semester.

Family, teammates and coaches described Williams as a leader and friend.
