Debra Leopard and Mark DiNovo created a ministry to dramatize the Bible and make it more relevant.

Debra, who has a masters degree in theater, has been involved since middle school. She’s currently the Artistic Director at Lexington’s Village Square Theater.

Mark has a plethora of theater experience starting on stage at 16.

Divine Drama Ministries helps churches and small groups experience what historical Bible figures went through by using monologues and small scenes between biblical characters.

For example, what went through Thomas’ mind when he saw the risen Christ.

What were Saul’s thoughts on the Damascas road?

Debra and Mark write their material from the Bible. So far, they have done 9 biblical dialogues in SC.

These include the marriage of Sarah and Abraham, 4 women of the bible for a women’s event, an Easter Sunrise service with Mary Magdalene at the tomb and a Christmas Eve program with Mary talking to the baby Jesus in the cradle, sharing her feelings as she re-tells the story of his birth.

Currently in the works is a story about John and Abigal Adams as they discuss their faith. They can even customize a play to address just about any issue or event from the Bible.

There is no charge for the dramas as it’s their personal ministry. Offerings are accepted for helping further the ministry. The plays are great for church retreats of any kind, youth groups, singles ministries and holiday services.

Mark explained, “This venue shows that people in the Bible were like us. They had good and bad days while struggling with many of the same issues we face today ourselves.”
