Do you have the isolation blues?

Posted

These are very upsetting time with the global threat of Corona virus. This unprecedented situation brings changes in everyone’s lifestyle.

Schools are closed as well as large gatherings cancelled. Restaurants and bars are urged to close or just offer pick-up orders. Employees are working from home with the help of technology. It’s isolation time.)

We are experiencing a “new normal” which we are all hoping will contain this dreadful disease. It appears a vaccine could be a year away. Meanwhile, we all need to practice healthy precautions, such as using disinfectants and wipes, washing hand frequently, social distancing and using common sense.

A preventative tip reported by Melissa Kyzer and issued by the Medical University of SC is that “everyone should ensure that their mouth and throat are never dry. Take sips of water every 15 minutes at least. The liquids will wash the virus, if present through the throat to the stomach, where the acids will kill the virus. This is doable.

Authorities say we will get through this pandemic, but need the cooperation of everyone to practice healthy habits and abide by suggestions and rules.

Our Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce held it month breakfast March 10. Presiding were President Otis Rawl and Chair Chris Petty. It was sponsored by Lexington Medical Center. County Administrator Joe Mergo was the keynote speaker.

Mergo gave updates on the county’s new facilities, economic development, partnerships and the capital penny sales tax.

The chamber is proud to continue providing the Doris Burkett Scholarship to a student from each high school in Lexington District 1 planning to attend a four year college or a technical college. For information, contact your school’s guidance counselor.

The Lexington County Choral Society’s concert, “Sing a Song of Broadway, and more” on Friday night was delightful.

Founder and director Hal McIntosh planned a repertoire of familiar tunes like “New York, New York,” Memories,” Phantom of the Opera” and more. The advanced handbell group, Southern Bronze Handbell Ensemble, was an enjoyable addition.

The following events will not be held as planned due to Corona virus restrictions:
