The basketball postseason is here.

After an exciting slate of action to end the regular season, it’s survive and advance time as teams look to make it through the playoffs.

Many teams spent last week fighting for better playoff seeding, trying to move up the standings in their last few games. This week’s Athlete of the Week winners led their teams to multiple wins and locked in a high seed.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.

Samajae Govan

Dutch Fork’s Samajae Govan helped the Silver Foxes clinch their second straight region title with wins over River Bluff and Irmo.

The Silver Foxes finished the regular season (22-3) overall and (9-1) in region play. Govan was a huge part of that success, averaging 17 points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Govan scored 16 points and had four assists in the win over River Bluff, which clinched the region championship.

The Silver Foxes ended the regular season by avenging their earlier region loss against Irmo, beating the Yellow Jackets 48-38. Govan scored a team-high 23 points and had three steals.

Dutch Fork earned a bye in the first round of the postseason. They’ll next play on Feb. 21 against the winner of the Mauldin and Spring Valley game. The team will continue to rely on Govan’s skills as they progress in the playoffs.

Aneya Britt

Gray Collegiate’s Aneya Britt had a big week as the War Eagles secured the No. 2 spot in their region.

The War Eagles earned dominant wins over Aiken and Gilbert last week, and Britt filled the state sheet.

Gray blew the brakes of the Green Hornets, winning 63-5. Britt finished with 28 points, 12 rebounds and five steals. In a 60-12 win over Gilbert, she recorded 19 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

The team finished the regular season (20-5) overall and went (12-2) in region games. Gray won its first-round playoff game against Brookland-Cayce on Monday and will play Wilson in the next round on Friday.
