Dutch Fork's Green and Danley to Play in 88th Edition of Shrine Bowl

Posted

The first Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas in three years will include  a pair of top-ranked Dutch Fork’s leading contributors.

Running back Jarvis Green and safety Landon Danley were the lone Chronicle Country players selected to the South Carolina team. The 88th edition of the game is scheduled for Dec. 17 at Viking Stadium in Spartanburg.

"The Shrine Bowl selected two great players in JG and LD.," Dutch Fork head coach Tom Knotts said. "They are great players that are very versatile. Jarvis can run with power or elusiveness and has great hands. Landon can play safety or drop down in the box and be a great run stopper. They should help SC dominate NC!"

Green has  provided a major boost on offense during the Silver Foxes past three state championship appearances, including two as part of the team’s historic ‘Five-Peat’ run.  Despite missing two games this season to injury, the two-sport All-State standout has rushed for 717 yards and 15 touchdowns in five games.

Green made his return Oct. 7 against White Knoll and rushed for 150 yards and three touchdowns in the 52-0 victory. It was Dutch Fork’s 42nd consecutive regular season win against Palmetto State teams, 29th straight road win and the 18th shutout win since 2016.

Danley has made an impact on both sides of the football. He’s tallied 19 tackles and two interceptions in seven games and is the team’s second-leading rusher with 267 yards and three touchdowns.

Danley has also rotated at quarterback during starter Aliam Appler’s injury absence.

"I’m very thankful for to be selected," Danley said. "it really means a lot. It’s always a great feeling being recognized and rewarded for the work you put in and also get a chance to compete with some of the best and further test my skills.

"Ever since I  arrived  at Dutch Fork, the Shrine Bowl was talked about a lot, even for the younger players. So, just being a Dutch Fork football player, it’s always been a goal of mine in high school . This accomplishment just pushes me more and reminds me to never stop working."

Wade Hampton head coach Jerry Brown, who won the 2013 Class 2A Division II title at Batesburg-Leesville and led Northside Christian in its inaugural season, will be the Sandlappers’ head coach. This is the first Shrine Bowl contest since  2019 after COVID-19 resulted in the cancellation of the next two planned games.
