Easter at the Blowfish Ballpark

What a beautiful Easter day. Weather could not have been more perfect for outdoor services and gatherings.

Lexington Baptist Church held their Easter services at the Lexington County Blowfish Ballpark. Hundreds attended this event with safety measures, praise and spirit.

Indoor services were also held with precautions. Easter lilies adorned churches while triumphant hymns filled the air.

Having received vaccine, families were back together as they celebrated the holy day. Progress has been made since one year ago. A sense of normalcy has returned.

Mayor Steve MacDougall said in April the town will start the free Lexington Live Concerts at Icehouse Amphitheater every Thursday at 6:30 pm. The Finesse Band will be April 8. The open-air Icehouse Pavilion is the new home for the Market and a place where vendors can set up during concerts and events. More women’s rest rooms, air conditioning and heat were added.

The long awaited reopening of Gibson Pond Park should happen in a few months in time for summer. Construction crews still needs to finish the bridge and fishing pier. The park is going to be better than ever.

The 9th Annual “It’s All About Herbs” festival is Saturday 9-3 pm at the Lexington County Museum, 231 Fox St. in Lexington. The free event includes plant sales, food vendors, herbal gardening demonstrations, a silent auction, and museum ground tours.

The Lexington Wine Walk is 6-10 pm May 8 at Icehouse Amphitheater. Tickets are $25 in advance. Spring is in the air, and that means it’s time for planting. The annual Midlands Plant & Flower Sale will be returning to the South Carolina State Farmers Market April 8 - 11. You will be able to shop for plants, garden essentials, Certified South Carolina produce, springtime décor and more.

Food vendors will be there plus the Market Restaurant will be open. The sale will be 8 am - 6 pm Friday - Saturday, and 10 am - 4 pm Sunday. The State Farmers Market is at 3483 Charleston Hwy, West Columbia.

Dale Timber reports the Lexington and Saxe Gotha Woman’s Clubs planted a pinwheel garden at the Lexington County Court House in observance of Child Prevention Month. Should you see suspected child abuse, please report it to the county Social Services Office at 803-359-8000. If a child is in immediate danger, please dial 911.

Linda Griffith reports that American Legion Post 7 plans its 1st gathering in over a year Saturday, April 10 at 7 pm at 211 American Legion Drive in Lexington. To join you may attend this meeting. Linda asked all who plan to attend to call 803-587-9876 or email dgriff4726@aol.com to arrange seating. Vice Commander John Testruth will conduct the meeting as this is Commander David Griffith’s Boys Trip Week when he and the grandsons take a spring break trip.

Anne Bull congratulates our Lexington High Girls Golf Team ranked #1 in the National High School rankings. The Lexington County Country Club has been the home course for the Lexington teams, and over the past 17 years they have won 15 state championships. They and coach Brandon Smith have been invited to the High School National Invitation Golf Tournament at the Pinehurst Resort June 23-25.

A pair of Lexington legends, attorney Billy Walker and Dr. Charles Harmon, have been featured in a local magazine.

Billy said, “I have no intention to retire. I like what I do and helping people.” Dr. Harmon, after nearly 50 years of taking care of people as a surgeon has retired from Lexington Medical Center. As a child, he was fascinated by tools and mechanics. He liked to fix things with his hands.
