Book Release: Mar. 10, 3:00 pm at Richland Library, 1431 Assembly St, Columbia, SC 29201. Author and local Author and local historian Rachel Haynie started researching and writing a book several years ago about Isabel Sloan’s dancing school. After Rachel’s death in 2018, her friends collaborated to finish her last book: South Carolina dances with Isabel Whaley Sloan. Images from the book will be part of “Remembering Rachel Haynie and Isabel Sloan” presented by co-authors Pat McNeely and Dr. Gene Atkinson of Orangeburg. A Sloan-style receiption will follow.

Forgotten Children of Slavery Exhibit: Mar. 7-10 in the Harbison Theatre at the Midlands Technical College Lobby, 7300 College Street, Irmo, SC. This free exhibit, “Beloved: Legacy of Slavery”, is dedicated to the impact slavery had on African-American children. The exhibit is by local artist Mary Burkett.
