State law enforcement ha asked for federal help in the Murdaugh family murders.

Wealthy Colleton County family members Maggie an Paul Murdaugh were brutally murdered 3 months ago.

Their father Alex Murdaugh, 53, was arrested on charges of insurance fraud and filing a false police report.

Sen. Dick Harpootlian, who represents Irmo in the Senate, represents Murdaugh, an opioid-addicted lawyer.

Murdaugh will be tried b Attorney General Alan Wilson’s prosecutors on charge alleging he:

• Conspired to commit suicide for his son Buster to receive $10 million in insurance.

• Convinced Curtis Ed ward Smith to assist him to commit suicide.

Alex Murdaugh is a victim who was shot because drug dealers took advantage of his addiction, according to NP Strategy , the PR firm representing his family.

Murdaugh renounced his right to personally represent the estate of his younger son, Paul, 8 days before he called 911 to report that he had been shot in the head, investigators said.

Photos of him after his arrest showed no signs of a head wound.

SC Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel said his agents are working diligently to follow the facts no matter where they lead.

“I have been in contact with the Federal Bureau of Investigation as well as the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina,” he said.

“From very early on in this investigation, SLED has utilized federal resources as needed. We will continue to call upon our federal partners as their assistance is needed to successfully investigate and prosecute specific aspects of these cases.”

Public Information Officer Tommy Crosby added, “As a result of the brutal murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh June 7, SLED’s initial priority was finding anyone responsible for their deaths. During the course of the double murder investigation, SLED agents have uncovered other potential crimes that warrant further investigation.

“We want to remind any member of the public who wishes to provide us with information related to these ongoing cases to call our 24-hour dedicated tip line at (803) 896-2605.”
