Sometimes the ability to track your devices really comes in handy.

Lexington County deputies arrested a man accused of breaking into a house and five cars this week after tracking him down using the “Find My AirPods” feature on a pair of the headphones he allegedly stole from a car on Smith’s Market Road on July 15, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Department.

The man, Columbia resident Ryan Chase Venable, 24, is charged with five counts of breaking into a motor vehicle, one count each of first degree burglary and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to the release, after securing a search warrant, deputies found guns, tools and other items in Venable’s home, reported stolen after break-ins in the neighborhood. When he was arrested at the home, “he had pills in his possession which were not prescribed to him, which prompted the drug charge.”

Venable is in custody at the Lexington County Detention Center after being denied bond.

“We’re glad we were able to get these things back to their owners,” Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted. “These were valuable items, ranging from a lawnmower and other power tools, to expensive electronics. We’re also glad the guns we recovered won’t be out there on the street.”
