Fire Prevention Week at Frances Mack Intermediate School

Posted

Frances Mack Intermediate School (FMIS) took part in Fire Prevention Week October 6-12. The National Fire Protection Association’s theme this year is, “Not every hero wears a cape. Plan and practice your escape.”  The goal is to educate everyone on the preventative steps they can take in case of a fire.  Principal Bryan Evans educated students and staff on what the week meant.  Mr. Evans encouraged everyone to create fire escape plans for their homes. “Start by drawing a level of each floor in your home, showing all doors and windows. Find 2 ways to get out of each room. Make sure someone will help get everyone out and teach the younger children how to escape on their own in case you cannot help them. Establish a meeting place outside and away from your home after exiting the house. Make sure your smoke alarms are properly installed and maintained.”

Lexington 4 and FMIS are thankful for the Gaston Fire Department and all they do for the community. Along with keeping the community safe, they facilitate public education events, encourage visits to the firehouse, and conduct boot drives. Firefighter Michael Enfinger has been serving the community for the last year and a half and Engineer Tyler Vann has been serving for the past 5 years. They agreed the best part of their job is being able to help people in the community.
