Football, volleyball stars named Athlete of the Week as high school sports season begins

Posted

A new high school sports year is here, which means it’s time again to select two exceptional athletes and name them the Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

This week’s winners have complete opposite levels of experience. But it didn’t matter that one is a freshman while the other is a senior. Both led their team to key victories.

Voting for Athlete of the Week runs from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Monday each week at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek. To submit a nominee for consideration, email a photo and short bio to sports@lexingtonchronicle.com.

Easton Crocker

Lexington football freshman Easton Crocker came on in the second half and was an instant spark for the Wildcats.

Crocker ran in all three of the team’s touchdowns in a 23-7 win against local rival Gilbert. He also had a solid outing in the passing game, completing seven of eight passes for 63 yards.

The Wildcats came into the season with a few questions at the quarterback spot. After one week, Croker certainly looks to be the answer for now.

Lexington will be back on the field this week for its home opener against a challenging North Augusta team.

Alexis Jodie

River Bluff volleyball star Alexis Jodie is entering her senior season and is looking to add to her already impressive list of career accolades.

Jodie helped lead the Gators to a 5-2 record entering this week. Her play as the team’s top setter allows her to rack up assists.

In a win over Lugoff-Elgin last week, Jodie had 25 assists and led the team in aces with four. She also had six digs.

In 18 sets played, Jodie already has 149 assists. Last season, she led the Gators with 805 assists in 103 sets played.
