Former Clerk of Court passes

Thomas Howard Comerford, 77, of Gilbert, died Aug. 25, 2021. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY, son of Stuart Comerford and Nina Comerford.

Tom graduated from Westfield Academy in 1965. He served in the US Navy from 1965-1968 and completed a tour in Vietnam. Post military, Tom attended Golden West College in California. He went on to have a successful career working for Xerox and Vilo-Bind in Los Angeles, CA. He later moved to Philadelphia, PA, to join Exxon Enterprises. Upon his father’s death, Tom went back to Youngstown, NY, to run the family business, Comerford Riverview Inn (est. 1893) for the next five years.

Tom moved to South Carolina in 1980 where he stayed for the rest of his life. He established his home on Lake Murray. Tom served as Clerk of Court for Lexington County from 1990 to 2002. He finished his career doing work for FEMA.

Tom loved antique cars, boating, history, politics and time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Maria T. Comerford; daughter, Constance Comerford Bates; son, Christopher Casey Comerford; granddaughter, Ellie Bates; stepson, Esteban Sierra; sister, Nancy Comerford Brown; brother, Stuart Comerford and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Dennis Comerford and sister, Judy Comerford Lezama.

A memorial service was held Sept. 1, 2021 at Radius Church in Lexington.
