Former deputy named executive director

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Officers’ Association and South Carolina Police Chiefs Association have named John “JJ” Jones as their new Executive Director.

JJ will start at SCLEOA and SCPCA on May 17.

JJ Jones began his law enforcement career 1995. In 1997, he began a 22-year career with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. He worked in Warrant Services, Community Services, Narcotics Division, K-9 Unit, SWAT Team, Patro Sergeant, Assistant Region Commander, Region Commander, Internal Affairs, and Operations Commander.

In his final assignment under the leadership of Sheriff Jay Koon, Jones was assigned to lead the law enforcement division as the Operations Major.

While serving at the LCSD, Jones was decorated 22 times to include the Life Saving Award twice, Medal of Valor, and representing LCSD as the 2008 SC Sher iff’s Association Deputy of the Year. He is also a 2013 graduate of the FBI National Academy Class 253.

Deputy Chief Jones joined the Cayce Department of Public Safety as the Assistant Director of Public Safety. After joining the department, Jones attended the

South Carolina Fire Academy where he graduated the program and was awarded the Order of the Maltese for leadership.

Deputy Chief Jones is married to his wife of 19 years, Laura Rawl Jones, and they have one son, Jacob Price Jones.
