A former Lexington County sheriff’s deputy was arrested after allegedly presenting a firearm to a woman while off duty and shattering the passenger-side window of an SUV.

According to releases from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the state Law Enforcement Division, Kyle Richard Sullivan, 35, is charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person and malicious injury to property less than $2,000 following the Aug. 10 incident.

During the encounter at the 5500 block of Platt Spring Road, Sullivan allegedly presented a pistol to a woman and a witness and shattered the passenger-side window of a 1998 Ford Explorer, according to arrest warrants provided by SLED.

Sullivan was terminated Aug. 11, the release states. He was arrested by SLED agents Dec. 12. The former patrol deputy turned himself and was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.

"When I became aware of Mr. Sullivan's actions, I started the process to terminate him and asked SLED to review the incident," Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted. "Deputies must be held accountable when it comes to their interactions with the public – whether on duty or off."

SLED didn’t immediately respond to the Chronicle’s request for comment.

"Law enforcement has to maintain a trust with the community," Koon is quoted. "We can't tolerate those who do anything to break that trust."
