Former Lexington High Golfers Earn Medalist Honors

Posted

A pair of former Lexington High School state championship golfers had strong showings Thursday.

Karlee Vardas broke away from a second-round tie to win the Women’s South Carolina Junior Golf Association Championship Division at Fort Jackson Golf Course in Columbia.

Currently a rising sophomore at Georgia Southern, Vardas shot a 1-under-par 71 to finish with a three-day score of 215. She edged out Aiken’s

Sophia Burnett by one stroke and 2022 S.C. High School League Class 3A champion Sydney Roberts by two strokes.

“I feel really good about the win,” Vardas said after the tournament. “It gives my confidence a boost and gets me into some good tournaments this summer.”

The next event is the Junior Girls Championship set for June 27-29 in North Myrtle Beach.

Over in Murfreesboro, Tenn., Ole Miss freshman Molly Hardwick earned medalist honors with Claire Henson of Oak Hill Academy to qualify for the U.S. Golf Association Junior Championship.

The event takes place July 18-23 at the Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky.
