Former SCANA CEO due back in court

Posted

Former SCANA CEO Kevin Marsh was to face state and federal charges of fraud this week.

Specifically he is charged by the state with obtaining $10,000 or more in propert by false pretenses.

His 2:30 pm Wednesday plea hearing was set for the Spartanburg County Courthouse before Judge J. Mark Hayes, II.

The hearing was to follo a 10 am hearing in Federal Court in Columbia on similar federal charges and a 10:30 bond hearing.

Marsh and former SCANA executive Stephen Byrne have been charged with lying to state regulators and their investors about their failed management of a now abandoned $10 billion nuclear power plant.

The failed nuclear fiasco cost SCANA ratepayers $2.2 billion in higher rates without delivering a single kilowatt of promised electricity.

Byrne, a former Irmo resident, has been cooperating with investigators in building cases against others involved in the massive fraud.

It is believed but has not yet been confirmed that Marsh is helping the investigators, too.

Both face millions of dollars in fines and prison time.

Details of the outcome of the hearings will be posted at LexingtonChronicle.com as soon as available.
