South Carolina fell again this past Saturday and the 30-6 loss to Texas A&M ended any bowl game hopes.

It’s evident the Gamecocks are ill-equipped to compete in the SEC. They mustered 2 field goals and finished 2-15 on 3rd down conversions against the Aggies.

Most mind-boggling is the South Carolina’s newly non-existent rushing attack. Against Appalachian State and Texas A&M, the Gamecocks rushed for a combined 66 yards.

It’s just the 4th time in the last 56 years that USC has rushed for less than 70 yards in consecutive games. The Gamecocks are reaching historically low records in a season that started with head coach Will Mus-champ saying it would be his most talented team.

Injuries play a role in the lack of production, but also tell a more grim side of the story. That “most talented team” Muschamp proudly claimed he’s ever coach is not nearly as deep or talented as they should be in Year 4 of his tenure.

Quarterback Ryan Hilinski continues to regress and when he does make an accurate throw, the receivers (not named Bryan Edwards) are inconsistent making the catch.

Defensively, the Gamecocks front 7 kept their team in the game against the Aggies. Texas A&M ran 41 plays against USC, but the Gamecocks were within 10 points at the start of the fourth quarter.

Now, the bye week comes at a time the team desperately needs key offensive players to get healthy.

“We aren’t as far off as people think we are,” Muschamp said. The Gamecocks have lost 7 games, 5 of which by double digits and 4 of those by 20 or more points.
