Gaston, Columbia students threaten schools

2 more Lexington County schools were threatened less than a week apart.

An 8th grader at Sandhills Middle School in Gaston is charged with threatening a student and carrying a knife to school Sept. 19.

A Lexington County school resource officer interviewed the 13-year-old male at the school.

His name will not be released because he’s under age 17.

“Administrators notified the SRO about the threat after they received word about a possible weapon on campus,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.

“A knife was found in the student’s bookbag inside his locker.”

The student threatened a 13-year-old classmate with a 9” switchblade, according to police reports.

Reports show the student claimed he brought the knife with him to the bus stop because he felt unsafe from alleged homeless individuals living in the woods.

The student’s father reported this was not true.

The victim told the SRO the student called him a “snitch” then showed him the knife.

SMS camera footage shows the interaction between the students with no audio.

The teen will appear in Lexington County Family Court later.

An 11-year-old student was charged Tuesday with making threats to bomb Cross-Roads Intermediate School and shoot school buses.

A Lexington County Sheriff’s Deputy interviewed the District 5 student after the threats were discovered on social media.

The student’s name will not be released because he is under age 18.

“Administrators notified the CrossRoads SRO about the threat over the weekend,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.

LCSD used screenshots to identify the suspect with the help of District 5, Koon said.

The student will appear in court at a later date.
