Norman Arthur Schuler, 60, was arrested Sept. 3 and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
An arrest warrant states Schuler used his truck to strike another driver on June 26 near the intersection of Cassidy Road and Blackville Road in Lexington County.
According to the warrant, the victim had just served Schuler with a family court hearing notice at his residence. After leaving, warrants say Schuler then pursued the victim and struck the rear of the victim’s vehicle.
The impact caused the victim's car to collide with two other vehicles, leaving those occupants with severe injuries.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), called by the South Carolina Highway Patrol to investigate, said its findings are based on video recordings and witness statements.
Schuler was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center and the case will be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor's Office.
