Gaston man pleads guilty to W. Cola robbery

Posted

Lilreg Shaquan Darby, 25, of Gaston, pled guilty to Armed Robbery and was sentenced recently by Circuit Court Judge Walton J. McLeod, IV, to 17 years in prison.

Assistant Solicitor Luke Pincelli prosecuted this individual for the Solicitor’s Office. The West Columbia Police Department and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department were involved in the investigation of the robbery and the arrest.

Darby committed the robbery on January 20, 2021 at a convenience store in West Columbia. He entered the store around 8 pm and spoke to the owner before walking around the store and leaving without making a purchase. He returned minutes later with a glove on and again lingered in the store before pointing a revolver at the store owner and demanding money.

Inv. Deas with the West Columbia Police Department spoke during the plea hearing and noted, “The way that (Darby) entered the store and spoke with owner and then came back later and robbed him shows how cold and calculated he was being.”

Darby has a prior conviction for Attempted Armed Robbery and was only recently out of prison when this incident occurred.
