Get on the Peace Train

Posted

It was 50 years ago this past November in 1971 that Cat Stevens wrote his famous song “Peace Train.”

What is it about trains that are so peaceful? I got a train set for Christmas when I was a little boy.

Naturally, I get a peaceful, easy feeling to this day when I see a good train set in operation.

Lexington Medical Center has a very elaborate train display in the North Tower foyer near the cafeteria.

The set belongs to Dr. Richard Webb, a surgeon on staff at Lexington Medical Center.

Dr. Webb has been collecting trains and the accompanying village since he was a little boy.

Since 2018 Dr. Webb’s elaborate train village has been erected every December.

It will be on display through the end of the month.

Roger Woomer of Lexington Medical’s engineering services has taken on the responsibility of actually building the display.

Every year Roger creates something new for the display, which features several trains and trollies rolling through tunnels and across bridges.

Children will certainly enjoy seeing the “Christmas Express.”

But it will be most appreciated by senior adults who love a little nostalgia of yesteryear.

The first steam locomotive was invented in 1804, so for nearly 200 years, trains have been a part of the fabric of America.

What senior adult did not read “The Little Engine that Could” when they were a child?

A model train set is mesmerizing and has a symbolic meaning about life.

The awesome power of the engine is in such contrast to the powerless cars that are pulled quietly behind.

What is the power engine for your life?

There is no greater power in the universe than the One who created it all!

Place your faith in God and everything else will fall in line where He leads.

That’s the definition of a real peace train.

The Lexington Medical train is definitely worth going to see and it is free to the public!
