Lexington families will have to find a new picnic spot this year.
The Town of Lexington will close Gibson Pond Park to completely rebuild the dam.
That dam was washed away in the 2015 flood that left many low-lying areas underwater.
The park will be closed while the dam is rebuilt for safety reasons since there will be heavy construction equipment on site, said Town of Lexington’s Laurin Barnes.
Expected costs are up to $6 million, with 75% of the total costs being funded by FEMA.
The rest of the funding will come from a general obligation bond that will be paid off through the town’s general fund.
The project is expected to be completed and the park reopened by the end of 2020.
