It was business as usual Monday for 1 Lexington School District 1 golfer team and a historic time for another.

Lexington High School rolled to victory at the SC High School League Class 5A Lower State Qualifier. The Lady Wildcats shot an even par 252 to place 1st for the 5th consecutive year.

Lexington finished ahead of Wando by 25 strokes and St. James and Carolina Forest tied for 3rd. River Bluff was 5th and Chapin was 7th.

Lexington’s Molly Hardwick won top individual honors with a score of 6- under-par 66. Teammate and defending state champion Karlee Vardas and Alayna Fortenberry of Carolina Forest tied for 3rd place.

The Lady Wildcats will now look to reclaim the Class 5A title next week at the Country Club of Lexington starting Monday. Blythewood is the defending champion.

Meanwhile, the Gilbert High School girls’ golf team made school history. The Lady Indians won the Class 3A Lower State Qualifier for the 1st time at Diamondback Golf Course in Loris.

Gilbert beat out 3-time defending champion Oceanside Collegiate Academy. Kennedy Gooding placed 1st overall with an even par game and teammate Alexis Hodge was 3rd.
