GILBERT NEWS: Hollow Creek Community Center begins fall meetings

After taking the summer off, Hollow Creek Community Center members began their monthly meetings on Thursday, Sept. 10. HCCC members brought their favorite covered dishes, desserts and beverages so everyone could have a delicious meal. Instead of a business meeting, everyone enjoyed playing bingo to win some nice prizes.

Members who had birthdays in September were recognized: Nell Hair, Mary Smith, Dale Swygert, Ann Hall and Homer Sease. HCCC members meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. They would love to have you join them. The club is involved in many community events and fundraisers. Monday, Sept. 14 marks the anniversary birthday of the VFW 6740 Auxiliary. Lake Murray VFW 6740 recognized and celebrated all committed auxiliary members. A birthday party was held for the VFW 6740 members. The ladies were shown appreciation for the many ways they serve military, veterans and our community. Everyone enjoyed the birthday celebration and birthday cake.

Gilbert High School held a GilbertFest for its students this week. On Wednesday, students enjoyed games, food and lots of fun from 6-8 p.m. GHS students also held a Homecoming Car Smash. For $3, students could smash a car for one minute or $5 for three minutes.

“Boston Butts for Baby Girl” is is a fundraiser for a couple adopting a baby girl who is due this fall. A fundraiser will be held for Hollens and Kalyn to help with the adoption and other costs. Cost is $50 per Boston butt cooked by Hudson’s Smokehouse BBQ. The Boston butts can be picked up at the Hollow Creek Community Center on Sunday, Sept. 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For tickets and other information, call 803-917-7032.
