The inaugural weekly Lexington Chronicle Athletes of the Week award was shared by two football players.
Gilbert running back DeAndre Cook and Brookland-Cayce’s Reed Charpia tied for the most votes among fans who visited www.lexingtonchronicle.com to vote on their Week 0 exploits.
Cook rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns in the Indians’ 35-28 victory over Gray Collegiate Academy. The victory was the team’s 11th straight at home during the regular season.
Charpia completed 14-22 passes for 228 yards and a touchdown and rushed for three scores in the 42-35 win over Class 5A White Knoll. The Bearcats are one of four Chronicle Country teams with a 2-0 record.
Other candidates were Tristan Allen and Cal Herndon (both of Lexington), Braden Walker (River Bluff) and Nanders Lawrence (Airport).
