A Lexington County family is asking for help for their daughter.

Danny and Mundina O’Driscoll’s daughter Colleen has Lyme disease.

Her family pays over $300 each week for her treatments and medication.

They have started a GoFundMe to help with rising medical costs after her insurance denied coverage.

Please donate and share Colleen’s story at https://www.gofundme.com/f/colleen039slyme-disease-medical-funding.

The family has also asked for prayers.

Chipotle of W. Columbia now open

The first Chipotle Mexican Grill in West Columbia officially opened its doors at 2871 Sunset Blvd. last week.

Chipotle field manager Brandon Henry said the fast-casual Mexican restaurant is the newest business in the developing area across from Lexington Medical Center, located beside Dunkin’.

The store is positioned in front of the developing Towneplace Suites, also scheduled to open soon.

Chipotle is known for its burritos, bowls, salads, tacos and guacamole. Customers choose what type of meat and ingredients they want while watching it being created in front of them.

Christmas in Cayce announced

This year’s Christmas in Cayce will be a drive-thru event Dec. 3 at Cayce City Hall.

The event will combine Carols Along the Riverwalk, the Cayce Historical Museum’s Christmas Open House and the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony into one event from 6-8 pm.

Santa and Mrs. Clause will be there in the City’s first ever firetruck, a 1937 Rio.

The Woman’s Club of Cayce will be collecting canned goods and non-perishable food items to benefit God’s Helping Hands and the Scooter Scott Project.

For more information, visit www.caycesc.gov.

Don’t get hit with surprise taxes

Over 700,000 SC workers have filed unemployment claims since the pandemic began in March.

Almost $4 billion has been paid in unemployment and pandemic-related benefits, according to the SC Department of Employment and Workforce.

SCDOR reminds anyone receiving unemployment that these benefits are taxable.

$500,000 for water projects

The Gilbert-Summit Rural Water District has $500,000 coming for water line improvements.

The district serves the fast growing area west of Lexington.

SC Rural Infrastructure Authority approved $13 million in grants for 28 water, sewer and storm water projects in South Carolina.

The grants will be combined with more than $15.6 million in local and other funds to address health and environmental concerns including water quality, sewer overflows or frequent flooding.

The projects will benefit more than 53,000 customers in Lexington and 18 other counties.

What’s new

Irmo Lock Co. Inc has a 2nd location at 538 Knox Abbott Drive in Cayce.

The name will be The Modern Locksmith, company president Guy Caskey said.

What’s reopened

The Lizard’s Thicket near the airport will remain closed but the 402 Beltline Blvd. restaurant has reopened.

Owner Bobby Williams decided to close 2 of 14 restaurants through the summer because of staffing shortages.

The Columbia Metropolitan Airport location will remain closed, because it is mostly a center for catering services and the demand for catering is still low, Williams said.
