Good times from the library

Posted

Due to the corona virus there was no Summer Reading Program for children at the Gilbert-Summit Library. However, children can enjoy video book readings, puppets and crafts each week on their Facebook page.

Last week Miss Amy from the Lexington Main Library read “Be You” by Peter Reynolds. Miss Josie from the South Congaree-Pine Ridge Branch Library and Little Owl sang songs and read stories. Afterwards Miss Josie showed how to make owls.

Miss Kacee from the South Congaree-Pine Ride Branch Library read “Falling for Rapunzel” by Leah Wilcox. She showed the children how to make their own bookmark featuring Rapunzel using simple materials.

Miss Becky from the Lexington Main Library created a LEGO Challenge for the children to build a trap and catch a magical creature. She read “How to Catch the Tooth Fairy” by Adam Wallace.

JR Fennell of the Lexington County Museum told how immigrants brought traditional medicines with them from their home countries. Dr. Thomas Simmons who practiced medicine in Lexington during the mid-1800’s, was featured in the video.

Videos for tweens and teens talk about how to deal with stress or being anxious. All of the videos can be watched anytime on the library Facebook page.

Librarian Louise Taylor said books and videos can be rented on the main library website and can be picked up at the Gilbert-Summit Branch Library. For more information call 803-785-5387.
