Grind your greens, get mulch back

AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

Springdale Mayor Michael Bishop is reminding residents that there is a green way to dispose of Christmas trees when it comes time to throw them out. Keep the Midlands Beautiful has created a program called “Grinding of the Greens” where you can dispose your tree at multiple locations between December 26 and January 10 and have it ground up. Then, on January 12, the S.C. State Farmers Market will give away free mulch from 8:30 am until the mulch runs out.

“This is a wonderful way to recycle and reuse your Christmas trees!” said Bishop.

Bishop also said the Town of Springdale’s “Christmas Tree Lighting was a huge success, and it couldn’t have been done without all the hard work and effort from our staff. A very special thank you to Ashley, Jacquelyn, Amanda, Scott, Chief Cornett, Sgt. Richbourg, Councilmember Fecas, and Mayor Pro Tem Ricard and his family for all their help with making this a very special night for our Town.”

For children spending Christmas in the hospital it can be even more stressful than the typical hospital stay. Children often worry that Santa will forget them.

Because of that, Cayce Department of Public Safety escorted Santa to Palmetto Health Children’s Hospital.

Cayce Department of Public Safety Officers also lugged Santa’s bags full of toys, games, books and necessities from room to room and met with children, giving each of them a gift to help spread the holiday joy.
