The Greater Lexington Chamber of Commerce is 60 years old! The anniversary was celebrated at the annual awards luncheon Feb. 26 at Lexington Church of Christ.

The awards ceremony allows Chamber members to nominate their fellow members to be recognized for their outstanding and admirable leadership within the business community and the community at large.

President Otis Rawl, welcomed guests and spoke of the Chambers first leaders, Dr. H. Odelle Harman, Raymond and Hamp Caughman, A.L. Harman and Hugh Rogers.

Presenting the awards were former Chamber chairs, Dr. Greg Bailey, Jim Barfield, Barbara Willm, and Glenn Martin. Assisting Mike Flack with the Mike Till Award were Angela Klosterman and Lauren Scurry, daughter of the late Mike Till.

The award winners were: Austin McVay, Young Professional; Floor Pro, Small Business of the Year; Burkett, Burkett, Burkett CPAs, Large Business of the Year; Joel Merrill, Ambassador of the Year; and Shelley Metropol, Mike Till Award.

Former Chamber leaders present were Hugh Rogers, Randy Halfacre, Tommy Harman, Nancy Hutto, and award winners Bunnie Hagenlocher and Sylvia Backman.

If you haven’t been to one of the concerts presented by the Lexington County Choral Society, you are missing out. The Mardi Gras and Celebrate Life concert on Friday night at Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church was superb. Special guests were the Dick Goodwin Jazz Sextet. They haven’t lost their touch as their selections were as awesome as ever.

The choral group’s upcoming events are the 7th annual golf tournament March 28 at Ponderosa Country Club in Leesville and the concert, Celebrate Love of Faith, Family and Fellow Man May

Buy your tickets for The Miracle Worker, being presented by Village Square Theater March 15 through 24. Call 359-1436. Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, students and military, and $14 for youth 12 and under.

Lexington residents hunkered down Sunday evening as storms and tornados blew through the area. Red Bank Baptist Church was damaged and downed trees and limbs caused power outages.
