AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

The Harvest Church of Lexington held a celebration luncheon last Thursday in honor of its 30th anniversary.

Pastor Ken Jumper wished to show his appreciation of Lexington’s friendship and support over the years. He gave a welcome and brief history of the development and programs of the church.

“A church for all people” is located at 4865 Sunset Blvd., Lexington. Worshipers are always welcome.

Among those attending were the pastor’s wife, Sally Jumper, family members and staff, Randy Halfacre, state Rep. Chis Wooten, Sheriff Jay Koon, Police Chief Terrance Green, Robin Bowers, Linda Brown, Dorri and Jerrell Smith, Ralph Schneck, Whitney Spires, Rod Lorick, and David Tanner.

With college football kicking off this week, there is much hype about the upcoming season for our Carolina Gamecocks and Clemson Tigers. Robbin Moss gives us a report of a Gamecock event:

The Lexington County Gamecock Club hosted the 5th annual Garnet Girls Brunch Aug. 3, at the Country Club of Lexington. Proceeds benefit the USC women’s athletic programs and 140 women attended. Each received a swag bag filled with goodies from various businesses in the county and a “thank you gift” specially made for the event. Over $6,000 was raised. The club’s board of directors is looking forward to presenting donations to each women’s sport.

Robbin is event coordinator and a board member. Feel free to email her at ggirlbrunch@yahoo.com . She reminds us of that upcoming events include Coach Mark Kingston’s baseball event in January and the club’s golf tournament in April.

Anne Bull sends Clemson Tiger news. The Lexington County Clemson Tiger Club held its fall meeting at Lexington High Aug.

21. Several hundred people attended to hear Don Munson, the Voice of the Tigers, give his opinions and predictions for the season.

So many are looking froward to the Shepherd’s Center fall Adventures in Learning. It starts Sept. 26 and runs through Oct. 31. Attendance has been steadily climbing. This is a wonderful opportunity to continue learning and to make new friends.

Annie Mack, director of the Lexington Senior Center says honored a cluster of summer birthdays Aug. 20. All were served birthday cake and ice cream. Dot Tumey, who turned 101, received the honor of being the oldest. They were all thrilled to have Sheriff Jay Koon and Police Chief Terrance Green stop by to wish them happy birthday.

Coming up at the Icehouse Amphitheater are a concert Aug. 30 featuring music from the 70s and 80s, and the Swinging Medalions Sept. 12.
