Lexington County under burn ban

Posted

Lexington County is on a burn ban until further notice.

The county issued the ban on debris burning in unincorporated areas.

Burns related to forestry, agriculture and cooking food will be allowed.

The ban came as firefighters battled a brush fire near the Interstate 20 Pelion-Batesburg-Leesville exit.

SC is under a Red Flag Fire Alert due to little rain and dry conditions.

The SC Forestry Commission discouraged using outdoor fires.

“With the dry weather we have experienced lately and winds gusting above 15 miles an hour, we strongly encourage everyone to postpone their outdoor fires,” Forestry Commission Fire Chief Darryl Jones said.
