Abird’s life can have drama and excitement! One day last week, my chickens in the coop suddenly started to make a loud ruckus. We ran outside to find a large hawk sitting calmly on top of the coop. The panicked hens were not happy!

Birds are beautiful creatures, and the Backyards Saturday on Sept. 7, 1-3 pm at Saluda Shoals Park, will feature bluebirds for National Bluebird of Happiness Day. The Columbia Audubon will be the special guest. Call 803-772-1288 for info.

The Town of Irmo has a position opening up on the Okra Strut Commission at the end of September. The Commission meets monthly on the 2nd Tuesday at 6:15 pm. This is a 3-year term. Does someone you know need service hours? The Irmo Library has an opportunity for you to fulfill those service hours by making plastic yarn called “plarn,” to use to make mats for the homeless.
