The towns of Swansea and Batesburg-Leesville have new faces on their town councils following the Feb. 17 special election that drew a total of 98 voters, including eight from Swansea and 90 from Batesburg-Leesville.
Lexington County Registration and Elections' results show a total voter turnout of 18.88% across the two towns.
Swansea
Official results from Lexington County Registration and Elections show that Tom Daugherty won the Swansea Town Council District 4 seat. He ran unopposed and received 100% of the eight votes cast.
The District 4 seat became open after Doris Simmons won the mayoral seat in the 2025 General Election. Simmons won 55.09% of the 167 votes cast in that 2025 election. Jerome D. Williams earned 44.91% of the votes cast in that same 2025 election.
The most recent Census data shows that 722 people live in Swansea.
Batesburg-Leesville
Chip Spradley won the District 2 seat for the Town of Batesburg-Leesville, receiving 85.56% (77) of the votes cast. His opponent, Todd Antonovich, received 12.22% (11) of the votes cast. There were two write-in votes. Two voters participated in early voting.
The seat became vacant after David W. Bouknight, who represented District Two for two years, won the mayor’s race against Stephen “Steve” Cain in the 2025 election.
The most recent Census data shows that 5,270 people live in Batesburg-Leesville.
Batesburg-Leesville spans two Midlands counties, Lexington and Saluda counties. District 2 is only in Lexington County.
