It’s playoff time for boys and girls soccer teams in Lexington County.

This week, 24 teams kick off their postseason runs, making for an action-packed week in the area. Many teams played well enough in the regular season to host, while others will have to try their luck on the road.

All four local region champions start their path to the title match at home.

Chapin’s boys finished the regular season (15-4) and went (9-1) in region to finish a game above Lexington. It was the team’s fourth straight region title

The Eagles were the best offensive and defensive team in the region. Chapin scored the most points in region play, with 45, and allowed the fewest, with three.

By winning the region, Chapin will have a first-round bye and will host the winner of Lugoff-Elgin and Goose Creek in the second round of the 5A Division II playoffs.

Lexington’s boys also earned a bye and will play the winner of Ashley Ridge and Carolina Forest.

The Wildcats girls flipped the script and finished ahead of Chapin in that region race. Both teams were elite on both sides of the ball, scoring over 40 goals in region play, while allowing less than two.

River Bluff also played some good ball, scoring 36 goals while giving up three.

Lexington and Chapin will have a bye in the first round. River Bluff will play Stratford in round one.

In 4A, Gray Collegiate swept both region titles and will enter the playoff as a high seed. There are no byes in the 4A playoffs, so both teams will take the field in round one.

The War Eagle boys played Darlington. The girls hosted Colleton County.

Swansea’s boys also won their region, earning the top seed from their conference. The Tigers played Dillon in round one.

The first and second round of the high school soccer playoffs are this week. The third round and state semifinals will be next week. Championships are the following week, from May 21-23 at Columbia’s Memorial Stadium.
