Talking Points

With gas just above $2 a gallon, more of us are taking to the road.

But researchers at WalletHub say our state is just average for summer travelers.

They rank neighboring North Carolina top in the country for vacationers.

North Carolina was ranked 9th best in costs, 30th in safety and 8th in activities for tourists.

South Carolina was ranked 24th with 5th best in costs, 49th in safety and 25th in activities.

That low rank in safety may be due to the 850 miles of 11 interstate highways in our small state.

Georgia fared a bit better at 22nd with 20th best in costs, 33rd in safety and 27th in activities.
