High school basketball fans in Chronicle Country will not have to travel far during the holiday season.
This Saturday kicks off a stretch of games taking place in conjunction with basketball tournaments.
Lexington Christmas Classic
It’s the first-ever girls’ basketball holiday tournament at Lexington High School. “This is our first annual Christmas Classic,” said organizer and Lady Wildcats head coach Molly Goodrich. “There’s (24) teams, three divisions, so we’re very excited for it. We’ve been putting a lot of work and energy into it. We hope it’s a tournament that people will come back to. It’s something that’s local, so a lot of South Carolina teams will want to come back to and get better. A lot of times you have to travel and spend a lot of money for those Christmas tournaments, but there’s (going to be) a lot of competition.”
There are two varsity divisions (Gold and Silver) and one for junior varsity teams. Both Wildcat Gymnasiums will be utilized and among the girls’ teams participating are Dorman, Spring Valley, North Augusta, Lugoff-Elgin and Gilbert.
The Christmas Classic runs from Saturday through Tuesday. It can be followed on Twitter (@ ChristmasClass5). Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by visiting www.lexingtonwildcats.com.
