How to fix iPhone batteries

Have you updated your iPhone to iOS 14.5? If so, you might be one of many iPhone users who have started having battery problems.

Apple is working on a fix for this commonly reported issue but we have a few things to try in the meantime.

• Your battery health. Visit Settings > Battery > Battery Health. What does it say your Maximum Capacity is?

If it’s 80% or greater, you’re in good shape. If it gives you a message about battery recalibration, wait a few days for updated information. If it is lower than 80%, the issue might be your hardware. If you’ve had your device for one year or less, check with Apple or your phone provider to see if your device is still under warranty.

• Check how much storage space is left. Visit Settings > General > [Device] Storage. You may get a Storage Almost Full alert. Some software updates will bring you close to your device storage limit. Beyond that, you may see recommendations for optimizing storage and/or a list of apps and how much storage each one uses. Cleaning out apps, old photos and videos, and other unused data can help your battery last longer.

Remember, you do not want to avoid making a necessary software update in the interest of preserving your battery.

Software updates can contain important security and bug fixes. A slightly diminished battery life is a small price to pay for security peace of mind.
