Irmo Boy Scouts help seniors

Irmo Troop 95 Boy Scouts have donated a musical gift to a retirement home.

The Scouts gave 20 MP3 players to Colonial Gardens Assisted Living Center residents in West Columbia.

MP3 players can store thousands of music tracks, photos, or videos so you can take them with you wherever you go.

They are smaller than a deck of cards — some as small as a pack of matches. A typical 20 gigabyte iPod has enough memory to store about 500 CDs, far more than you can fit in your pocket.

To become an Eagle Scout, Jamie Anderson says he raised enough money on his go-fund-me page to buy 20 MP3 players and headphones for the residents.

Anderson says he wanted to see the same smiles he saw on his grandfather’s face when he was given an MP3 player in the last stages of Alzheimer’s disease.

The Scouts loaded the MP3 players with music from the 40’s to the 70’s.

The Scouts hope residents can connect to the music.
