An Irmo High School graduate has earned a Clio Scholarship.
Frank Beagen received 1 of 3 Clio Scholarships from the South Carolina Council for the Social Studies.
Beagen was chosen from among several qualified applicants to receive a $500 scholarship.
“We chose Frank because of his stellar application,” said Albert Robertson, President-Elect of the South Carolina Council for the Social Studies. “This scholarship is given annually to a high school senior or an undergraduate student who is interested in becoming a social studies educator. We are excited that this young man is wanting to pursue a career in social studies education.”
Beagen will attend Lander University in the Fall. “Ultimately I would like to teach World History at the high school level,” Beagen said. “I would like to be a mentor to students both in the classroom and ball field.”
Beagen’s achievements included being an honor graduate, National Honor Society, outstanding senior orchestra student, and a 2-year varsity letterman in baseball.
“There is no doubt Frank has a bright future ahead of him. We look forward to following his success and encourage him to return home to teach at Irmo High School,” said Irmo High School principal Dr. Robin Hardy.
