Seniors citizens in the Lexington-Richland School District 5 community enjoyed the 7th annual Goodwill Brunch at the Center for the Arts at Irmo High School International School for the Arts on Dec. 5.

“The annual Goodwill Brunch allows us to bring the community together and into Irmo High School International School for the Arts to showcase the generosity, talent, and giving spirit of our outstanding students,” said Irmo High School principal Dr. Robin Hardy. “We are excited that our students have the opportunity to get to know families in the community and give back to them as much as they have given to our school.”

Through a partnership with the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission, guests were served a meal and treated with performances from the school’s Concert Choir, Master Class Orchestra, Theater company, Jazz band, World Percussion Ensemble and more. This year, guests were also given special holiday ornaments to take home.

Guests for the Goodwill Brunch range from school retirees, local community members and leaders. Irmo resident Sandra Stegbauer has attended the event for 4 years.

“It’s a wonderful event filled with good food, friends and fellowship,” said Stegbauer. “I think it is good for the young people to interact with the senior adults and it is good for the senior adults to be able to spend time with the young people.”

Irmo resident Willa Jones added, “I enjoy the atmosphere of the event. I had grandchildren that attended Irmo High School and I love coming back to visit because I love this school. My favorite part is when they entertain us. The students are so talented and do a wonderful job!”

Irmo High School junior Destiny Thomas looked forward to hosting the event to show her appreciation for those who share their pride and support of the school.

“It’s important that we give back,” Thomas said.
