Irmo High School concert choir performed at Carnegie Hall

On March 16, 23 students from Irmo High School’s concert choir performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall. They performed “A Vision Unfolding” by Kyle Pederson.

Kenny Potter led the group and Irmo High senior Sophie Johnson-Distefano was selected to be among a solo group for the performance.

The students who performed include Ava Alsup, Baylie Batchelor, Anasia Bryant, Summer Daniels, Jonas Dillon-Sauer, Taylor Ellis, Chloe Erwin, Emmalyn Grant, Isabella Howe, Liana Joseph, Danielle Lawrence, Malia Lewis, Abby Mazzei, Ciara Moorer, Jacob Quinones, Jayden Samuels, Meadow Sapienza-Chaney, Khloe Seabrooks, Cherish Taylor, Christiana Valdez, Zerachiel Valdez and Viviana Zavala. All students are part of the Irmo High School International School for the Arts.

“I’m so proud of our students,” Irmo High School choral director Frank Turner said. “They worked hard to prepare a 35-minute piece of music while preparing for so many other obligations: All-State Chorus, Concert Performance Assessments, Mamma Mia, sports etc. Even still, they did it all with grace, professionalism and pride for our school. Kenny Potter, the Carnegie Hall performance conductor, found me after the dress rehearsal to personally commend Irmo’s preparation and enthusiasm.”

The students also attended a showing of The Lion King on Broadway and met with cast member Ezekiel McCall.
