Irmo High students build wheelchair ramp for local family

Posted

Students from Irmo High School’s Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) and National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) partnered with a local non-profit organization, Emmanuwheel, to build a wheelchair ramp, helping a family’s home to become more accessible for a member with mobility challenges.

Students worked on this ramp on a Saturday afternoon and combined their skills to construct a safe and functional ramp. This project showcased the importance of giving back to the community and the power of teamwork.

Emmanuwheel has been dedicated to helping families in need with individuals who have disabilities and this project with Irmo High School enhanced the family’s living situation.

“We’re proud of what we accomplished and grateful to have worked together with both FCCLA and NTHS,” Serifina Koroma, a junior at Irmo High said. “As a member of both student organizations, we were happy to give up our Saturday to help a local family in need. This project embodies the spirit of community service and shows how young leaders can make a real difference.”

The Irmo High students plan to collaborate with Emmanuwheel next year to continue to help the community.
