Posted

There is a free community event later this month intended to educate the public on substance abuse.
Presented by the Irmo Police Department and Officer Jermaine Galloway, locals will take part in a nationally recognized program to learn about the signs and symptoms of alcohol and drug use, how to identify drug paraphernalia and party drugs and the dangers of synthetic drives and over-the-counter misuse.
The event is on Friday, July 19 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College, which is located at 7300 College St. in Irmo.
There is no admission fee and you can secure your spot by visiting the Town of Irmo website and going to the events calendar. This event is also known as Tall Cop: High in Plain Sight presented by Irmo Police Department.
“Join IPD for a community-focused educational training where you will learn to identify possible high-risk behaviors in youth to help actively prevent substance abuse in your community, school, and home,” according to the event description. “This informative session is designed for adults only. Parents, educators, community leaders, and anyone concerned about youth substance abuse are encouraged to attend.”
