A verbal altercation preceded a shooting in a grocery store parking lot that left one person dead, Irmo Police say.

The department announced via social media that it responded to a shooting in the Kroger shopping center at 7467 Saint Andrews Blvd. at 4 p.m. Feb. 14, locating the unidentified victim in the parking lot.

“A short time later, the victim was pronounced dead,” Irmo Police posted to Facebook.

The victim was idetnified the next day as  26-year-old Irmo resident Alexandria Cress Borys. The Lexington County Coroner's Office posted to Facebook that she was "was shot after a verbal altercation."

"Mrs. Borys was pronounced dead on scene due to a single gunshot wound to the head. "

Christina Harrison, 23, turned herself in at about 5:30 p.m. and was arrested in connection with what the department is calling a murder.

“From the information gathered at the scene, it appears that the suspect and the victim did not know each other, however, they were involved in a verbal altercation just prior to the shooting,” Irmo Police posted. “The suspect fled the scene in a white Ford. While Investigators were still on scene, the suspect called dispatch and said that she was at the Police Department to turn herself in.”

According to the Facebook post, Harrison was taken into custody and charged with murder “as well as other weapons related offenses.” She was taken to the Lexington County Detention Center.

“Unfortunately, this is a situation where tempers flared, and someone let anger get the best of them. One rash decision has impacted the lives of two families and countless others who witnessed this tragic event.” Irmo Police Chief Bobby Dale is quoted. “Senseless is the only word I can think of to describe what happened today.”
