Local home sales rose 21% from June 2020 to May 2021, according to the SC Association of Realtors.

The overall median sales price climbed 14.2% to $257,000. Available singlefamily homes fell 53.5%, meaning only enough single family homes are available to last 1.1 months and 1.2-months of condos.

Tax free weekend

For 72 hours, the state will hold its Sales Tax Free Weekend from Aug. 6 to 8.

During the annual sales tax holiday, many purchases are exempt from the state and county 7% sales tax. Tax-free items range from clothing, accessories, and shoes to school supplies, backpacks, and computers.

Lake Murray bass tour

The Big Bass Tour will return to Lake Murray April 29-May 1.

This will be the 12th year, said Lake Murray Country CEO Miriam Atria. The tour will also be March 11-13 at Clarks Hill, GA, and March 18-20 at Lake Norman, NC.

Law firm changes name

The Moore Taylor Law Firm in West Columbia has a new name. The name now is officially Moore Bradley Myers!

Business diplomacy

Congressman Joe Wilson of Springdale has reintroduced the bipartisan City and State Diplomacy Act, which supports state and local diplomacy abroad.

“I’m grateful for South Carolina’s leadership in international engagement,” he said.

Your credit score

Sen, Tim Scott, R-SC, has reintroduced the Credit Access and Inclusion Act to expand access to credit for an estimated 45 million Americans with no credit history.

This will permit landlords and utility and telecom providers to report on-time payments to credit reporting agencies and let consumers build positive credit by paying their bills on time.

Barn sale and party

Brett and McKenzie Flashnick, owners of Farm 1780 on Corley Mill Road in Lexington, plan a Barn Sale Preview Party 6 - 9 pm Friday., $50 tickets include a barbecue dinner, fish fry, beer, wine and other refreshments with 15% off any purchases.

A silent auction will be 6:30 - 8:30 with items unavailable at any other time. The preview party is for guests 21 and up.

The Barn Sale will be open to the public 7 am to noon Saturday.

Cayce wins award

The City of Cayce has won an achievement award from global location intelligence company Esri for its use of mapping and analytics technology.

Cayce’s Geographic Information System analyst Robert Hawks worked hard on this said City Manager Tracy Hegler.

• Columbia Three Associates leased renewal of 50,000 square feet of industrial space at 128 McQueen Street in West Columbia to Carolina Container.

• Joenan Investments sold a 2,500 square foot office building at 7223 St. Andrews Road in Irmo to MAN CO, for an undisclosed price.

• Pet Med Mobile of Columbia sold 0.4 acres of land at 2817 Augusta Road in West Columbia to GGH for a new Precision Tune Auto Care service center.
