Johnson to speak at Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast

Posted

A prominent face associated with the Lexington County Blowfish program is returning for a special appearance.

Jonathan Johnson, the winningest head coach in the team’s history, is the featured speaker at the annual Lexington County Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast. The event, co-hosted by the Blowfish and Lexington Mayor Steve MacDougall, is scheduled for Oct. 31 starting at 7 am at the Stadium Club.

Back in 1996, Johnson and his father, Johnny, started a baseball ministry called Honoring the Father Ministries that uses baseball to share Jesus Christ. Their ministry reaches several thousand Cubans for Christ each year.

This is accomplished by following Jesus Christ’s example - meeting people at the point of their need. Whether through sports ministry, construction, feeding hungry children, or offering medical services, HTF reaches out with a loving hand that leads others to Him.

Over the past 23 years, Honoring The Father Ministries has ministered to over 1,115,000 people in Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru & Venezuela with hundreds of thousands making decisions for Christ.

Since leaving the Blowfish, Johnson has coached the fledgling Columbia International University new baseball program. Johnson played professional baseball for 10 years, six of those years with four major league teams.

He was a 1st Round MLB draft pick for the Texas Rangers in the 1995 amateur draft. He also pitched in the majors for the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres and in the Atlanta Braves system.

Johnson also has coached at the high school level at Dutch Fork High School and Ben Lippen High School. The latter school is now coached by new Lexington County head coach and Lexington native Matt Padgett.

Tickets for the Prayer Breakfast are $10 which includes a buffet breakfast. Visit https://squareup.com/market/lexington-countyblowfish/ to purchase tickets.
