A Chapin Council man is running for Chapin Mayor.
Al Koon, a longtime resident, has deep roots in the Dutch Fork dating back to 1752.
Koon said his campaign will focus on preparing for the future while staying true to the community’s values and character.
“Chapin is at a pivotal point in history,” Koon explained.
“If we make the right decisions now, our Chapin can be the gem of the state.”
Koon will face the chal lenges of balancing growth with keeping a small-town feel for the quickly changing Chapin area.
“Folks in our area tend to be conservative, and they value their local independence. We need to manage our town in a way that aligns with those values.”
He is a retired engineer with SCE&G. He lives with his wife, Susan, and has 2 sons and 4 grandchildren.
The nonpartisan election will be held on Nov. 2, 2021.
